Team Ella is committed to 30 Days of 30 minutes fitness every day in January

As lockdown pushed everyone back inside this month, 30 people from the Kendal area determinedly pushed on with their 30-day fundraising challenge to support a girl who has muscular dystrophy.

Ella Dixon was diagnosed as a manifesting carrier of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy 11 years ago and the family has been resolute in their amazing fundraising efforts to help advance research into finding a cure ever since.

#teamella is their fundraising Family Fund, set up with Muscular Dystrophy UK and run by Ella’s mum Clare, 47 and dad Craig, 45. Following  the success of a similar challenge in June last year, the 30-day fundraiser started on 2 January, to get as many people as possible to be sponsored to do 30 minutes exercise every day for 30 days.

Clare said:

We knew a lot of our friends would be up for this challenge, coming straight after Christmas when we have all over-eaten! We are thrilled that several men and also their kids have joined in this time. It is turning out to be a really positive way to help us all get through another lockdown.

Last Summer we would all have been out swimming and running, but yesterday I did a 30-minute online work-out because with black ice out there, it had to be an inside activity.

We are so impressed with how our friends are adapting to this challenge during a miserable January.

Charles Horton, Regional Development Manager for Muscular Dystrophy UK in the North West said,

I am impressed by the determination and effort that supporters of Team Ella are showing for this challenge – especially when they can only take on the challenge remotely. They have shown that they can do it before and I know they will succeed again this month.

I would like to thank every single one of the team taking part who, by getting sponsored to complete 30 minutes of exercise every day in January, are all helping to fund research into treatments to combat muscle-wasting conditions.

#teamella raised over £5k in June and hope to beat this month’s target of £3K. You can support them here.
